The resort area is located near the village of Oriawyk, not far from the Tysovets sports base. The road to Tysovets passes Oriawyk-Zveniv, so the resort is easy to find—the slopes and infrastructure are literally right beside the road.

Oriawyk-Zveniv has a pleasant quality that larger resorts often lack: everything here is free of unnecessary noise. You do not have to spend half a day looking for the right slope, another half a day trying to remember where you left the car, and then wonder in the evening why the trip cost more than the skis themselves. Here, everything is much simpler: the mountains are close, the slope is close, and the car is close—give it a little more time and you could almost ski straight from the porch.

The resort is small, and the atmosphere matches—peaceful and almost home-like. No one expects an Olympic result from you after your very first run, and if your skis suddenly decide to go one way while you go another at a turn, the Carpathians have seen it all before and will not tell anyone. That is why Oriawyk-Zveniv is especially well suited to people who are just getting acquainted with skiing or simply want to enjoy the slopes without sporting ambitions or resort bustle.

Oriawyk-Zveniv is a small resort, so you can understand its ski infrastructure in just a few minutes. There are no dozens of slopes requiring bus rides between them or a study of the resort map before every run. The main runs and lifts are arranged compactly, and the best-known part of the ski area is the «Zveniv» complex.

Its small scale is one of the location’s main advantages. For someone who has just put on skis for the first time or is not yet confident on difficult slopes, having a large number of runs does not offer much anyway. At Oriawyk-Zveniv, you can calmly practice turns, braking, and getting on the lifts without wondering every five minutes whether you have accidentally ended up on a run from which the only way back is to pray.

Oriawyk-Zveniv Ski Runs

The Oriawyk area traditionally includes two ski zones—«Zveniv» and «Oriawyk». The larger of the two is «Zveniv,» where several runs of varying lengths have been developed. The complex has ski runs ranging from 400 to 1400 meters. Most of the slopes are suitable for beginners and skiers with limited experience, although the upper section of the longer run is noticeably steeper and requires more confident skiing.

The «Oriawyk» complex is even more compact, with shorter and gentler slopes predominating. It has 2 runs for beginners and children, each 450 m long. For experienced skiers who are used to discovering new runs all day and seeking challenging descents, Oriawyk-Zveniv may start to feel too small quite quickly. And it is worth saying that honestly. The resort’s strength is not its scale but its accessibility and simplicity—it makes much more sense to come here to learn, practice, or spend a peaceful winter day on the slopes.

Lifts and Snow Tubing

Surface lifts form the basis of the uphill infrastructure. At the «Zveniv» complex, information guides list a longer surface lift of approximately 960 meters and a shorter one of about 350 meters. A snow-tubing area with its own small lift is also located beside the short training slope.

The «Oriawyk» complex uses a shorter surface lift of approximately 400–450 meters. This may seem very modest to an experienced skier, but beginners do not have to spend half their energy simply getting back to the top. The operation of individual lifts depends on the weather, snow conditions, and the current season, so before making a special winter trip, it is worth checking which slopes and lifts are operating on the day of your visit.

Equipment Rental: Bring Your Own If You Have It

For someone who simply wants to try skiing once, it may be sufficient. But if you have your own boots, skis, or snowboard and can easily bring them by car, I would recommend taking your own gear.

This applies especially to boots. Half a day on the slopes in footwear that has decided to punish you for every sin in your life can ruin the impression even of the most beautiful Carpathian scenery.

Food Near the Slopes

For a small resort, the food options here are quite good. There are places near the ski area where you can have a proper meal, drink hot tea or coffee, and warm up between runs. The format is generally simple, with no pretensions to fine dining, but after several hours in the cold, a plate of hot home-style food often looks more appealing than any complicated menu.

This fits Oriawyk-Zveniv’s overall character well: the resort appeals precisely because it offers a simpler, more budget-friendly getaway without making you pay for the scale of a large tourist complex at the same time.

Another practical advantage of Oriawyk-Zveniv is parking near the ski area. There is space for cars, and it is entirely sufficient for a resort of this size. You do not have to leave your car several kilometers away and then organize a separate expedition with skis, boots, children, and a thermos to reach the lift.

Oriawyk-Zveniv has one very practical advantage: it is relatively easy to reach by car, and the resort itself is located directly beside the road toward Tysovets. For a small mountain area, access is perfectly reasonable, so there is no need to organize a full expedition with a map, compass, and запас of patience. If you are traveling from Lviv, most of the route follows the M-06 Kyiv—Chop highway toward Stryi and Zakarpattia. After reaching the village of Koziova, turn right toward Oriawyk and Tysovets. The road then leads through a mountain valley to Oriawyk itself.

After turning off the highway, everything becomes quite simple: stay on course toward Tysovets, and it is hard to miss the «Zveniv» ski area. This is one of those cases where a navigator is useful, but even without one, the chances of accidentally ending up on the other side of the Carpathians are small.

In my experience, the access road to Oriawyk-Zveniv is quite good for a rural mountain area. It is paved, and the resort is not hidden high in the mountains at the end of some forest track. But the Carpathians in winter are still the Carpathians. After heavy snowfall or during icy conditions, even a perfectly decent road can quickly remind you that the laws of physics have not been repealed. Check the forecast before setting out, and winter tires are essential here—not merely a decorative entry in your vehicle documents.

How to Reach Oriawyk Without Your Own Car

If you are traveling by public transport, the most convenient first step is to get to Skole. The town has rail connections toward Lviv and Zakarpattia, so you can reach it by train or suburban electric train and continue from there to Oriawyk. The simplest option is a taxi or a transfer booked in advance, especially if you are traveling with skis, a snowboard, or a lot of luggage.

Local public transport toward Oriawyk may not run as frequently as tourists would like, so it is best to check the timetable immediately before your trip. In winter, also take the weather and road conditions into account: after heavy snowfall, the journey may take longer.

If you are traveling as a group or family, a taxi from Skole is often the most convenient solution—you do not have to adapt to a timetable, and you will be taken practically to the resort itself. For the return journey, it is best to save the driver’s number in advance so that you do not have to search for transport after skiing.

Where to Stay Near Oriawyk-Zveniv

Finding accommodation in this part of the Carpathians is much easier than the resort’s size might suggest. In the village of Oriawyk, there are private guesthouses, cottages, small hotels, and holiday complexes. Some accommodation is located quite close to «Zveniv,» so you can reach the slopes quickly by car.

There are options for a single couple as well as for large groups or families. Choices include separate wooden cottages, apartments with kitchens, guesthouses with saunas or hot tubs, and hotel rooms. In other words, Oriawyk works well both for a one-day trip and for several days of winter relaxation.

If skiing is your main goal, I would recommend looking for accommodation as close as possible to the «Zveniv» ski area. If you prefer more quiet, scenic views, and a private cottage, you can look farther inside Oriawyk. Distances here are short, especially if you have your own car.

Incidentally, Oriawyk’s convenient location means you do not have to build your entire trip around one resort. From here, you can continue on to Tysovets or, if you wish, use Oriawyk as a base for trips to other parts of the Skole Beskids.

Overall, logistics are one of the resort’s strengths: from the Kyiv—Chop highway, you only need to turn at Koziova, drive through Oriawyk toward Tysovets, and you are already by the slopes. When only a few minutes separate you from a warm cottage after a day in the cold, you start to appreciate these little conveniences especially.

Oriawyk-Zveniv is not a universal resort for absolutely everyone, and that is worth understanding before you go. Its strength is not its scale but its simplicity. It is more comfortable for people who do not need dozens of runs, a complex lift system, and an entire metropolis around them. This is a place for relaxed skiing, learning, and recreation without excessive expense.

So first and foremost, Oryavchyk-Zveniv is well suited to beginners. The gentle slopes let you gradually get used to skiing, practise braking, turning, and riding the drag lift without feeling that every mistake could end with an expedition down the mountain. For a first introduction to alpine skiing, this format is even more convenient than a large resort. It is easier to find your way around, there is less unnecessary stress, and after a few runs you already have a good sense of where you feel comfortable and where it is better not to venture yet.

For families with children

The resort's compact size is also convenient for a family winter getaway. The car, slopes, places to grab a bite, and somewhere to warm up are all close by, so you do not have to spend the whole day transporting children, equipment, and belongings between different parts of a large complex. If a child is just starting to ski, a small resort is often psychologically more comfortable too. There is no feeling that everyone around you was born in ski boots and that you are the only one trying to figure out how to stop before the slope runs out.

For a budget-friendly winter getaway in the Carpathians

If you need quiet slopes, minimal fuss, a decent road, affordable accommodation, and the chance to simply ski in the Carpathians, Oryavchyk-Zveniv may turn out to be much more pleasant than a large, heavily promoted complex. Sometimes you really do not need twenty runs for a good winter day. One where you feel comfortable, a little snow, and a hot tea after skiing are enough—and for your skis to spend at least most of the day going in the same direction as you are.

One of Oryavchyk-Zveniv's advantages is its location among the Skole Beskids. Even if the resort itself is small and one day is enough for skiing, you can easily extend your trip with other interesting places in the Lviv Carpathians. You do not necessarily need to plan complicated, hours-long hikes for this—some locations are well suited to an ordinary road trip.

Of course, the most logical continuation of the tourist route is the Tysovets training and sports base. It is located very close to Oryavchyk, and the road there essentially passes by the Oryavchyk-Zveniv ski resort.

Tysovets offers a completely different format. It is not a typical tourist ski resort, but an active winter-sports base with a long history. You can see old ski jumps, sports facilities, and the landscape where athletes trained and competitions were held for decades. Oryavchyk-Zveniv and Tysovets therefore complement each other well: first you can ski at a small resort, then drive a little farther and see a completely different side of the winter Carpathians.

Skole — a small Carpathian town among the Beskids

Skole is located nearby and is one of the main transport and tourist centres in this part of the Carpathians. If you travelled to Oryavchyk by train, your introduction to the region most likely began here. The town is surrounded by mountains and the territory of the Skole Beskids National Nature Park. You can walk through the central area, see the historic buildings, visit local historical sites, or simply stop here before continuing your journey.

Skole is also a convenient starting point for hiking routes into the mountains. If, after a day on the slopes, you want to stay in the Beskids for another day or two, there are already far more options here than might seem apparent from the main road.

Kam’ianka Waterfall and Zhuravlyne Lake

One of the region's best-known natural attractions is Kam’ianka Waterfall in the Skole Beskids National Nature Park. Here, a mountain river plunges over a rocky ledge, forming a picturesque cascade in the forest. It is a good option for anyone who wants to see Carpathian nature without a difficult climb to a summit. The waterfall is at its fullest in spring and after rainfall, but the Kam’ianka valley is interesting for most of the year.

Near the waterfall lies Zhuravlyne, or Dead, Lake. A forest trail leads to it, so both natural attractions can conveniently be combined into one walk. After a day among ski slopes, this is a completely different side of the Carpathians—quiet forest, water, and a trail instead of lifts and skis.

Tustan — a medieval fortress among the rocks

If you would like to add history as well as nature to your trip, plan a visit to Tustan near the village of Urych. It is one of the most unusual sights in Lviv region: in the Middle Ages, a wooden defensive fortress stood among enormous sandstone rocks. The wooden structures have long disappeared, but thousands of grooves and cut-outs remain in the rocks, allowing researchers to reconstruct the appearance of the ancient fortress. Today, tourist trails and viewing platforms wind around the rocks, offering incredible panoramas of the Skole Beskids.

Tustan is especially well suited to a separate day, when you have had a little too much skiing but it is still too early to sit around in the cottage. The Carpathians, as we can see, have a clever plan: first lure you in with snow, then quietly make you climb rocks and read about medieval customs posts.

How to Plan a Route Around Oryavchyk-Zveniv

If you have come only for the weekend, do not try to see everything at once. The simplest option is to combine skiing at Oryavchyk-Zveniv with Tysovets, as both locations lie practically along the same route.

• For one day: skiing at Oryavchyk-Zveniv → a short trip to Tysovets;
• For two days: Oryavchyk-Zveniv → Tysovets → Skole;
• For a nature trip: Oryavchyk → Kam’ianka Waterfall → Zhuravlyne Lake;
• For a full day trip: a visit to the Tustan Historical and Cultural Reserve.

And this is where Oryavchyk-Zveniv's small size becomes an advantage. You do not need to devote your entire holiday to one resort: a few hours on the slope can easily be combined with a drive to Tysovets, a walk around Skole, or another day among the natural and historical sites of the Skole Beskids.

Oriavchyk-Zveniv is unlikely to impress an experienced skier with its scale. There are no dozens of runs, high-speed lifts, or extensive resort infrastructure here. But perhaps that is precisely why this place has its own character — it does not try to be something it is not. It is a great place to come if you simply want to ski, refresh your skills after a break, or get on skis for the first time without feeling as though everyone around you is auditioning for the Olympic team. Small slopes, a compact area, nearby parking, and a decent road make a visit here straightforward even for those who are not used to planning a winter trip like a military operation.

Oriavchyk-Zveniv is especially well suited to those who value a peaceful and relatively budget-friendly winter getaway in the Carpathians. You can spend a few hours on the slopes, warm up with a hot meal, and return to a cottage in Oriavchyk in the evening or continue along the route toward Tysovets. Of course, there are some trade-offs. Equipment rental is not the reason to travel halfway across the country to get here, and an experienced athlete may quickly find the choice of runs too limited. But if you know this in advance, you will not be disappointed.

Because Oriavchyk-Zveniv’s strength does not lie in the number of kilometres of runs. It lies elsewhere: arriving without unnecessary pretension, enjoying a good day of skiing, taking in the snow-covered Beskids, and simply having a great winter day. And if, after a few runs, you are already standing confidently on your skis, no longer hugging every tree on the turns, and even eyeing a steeper slope with suspicious confidence — then Oriavchyk-Zveniv has done its job.
