How the dead lake was formed in Solotvyno

In 1902, local authorities made an economically viable decision and opened a new mine for the extraction of white gold - salt. It existed comparatively not for long, since the groundwaters eventually flooded it completely. The surface sank for 20 meters, forming a lake later. Near the shore, a comfortable recreation base was set up, as it was discovered that the water has unique healing properties. The local region became known to the world not only as an industrial region, but also as a magnificent tourist corner of Ukraine.

In 2010, there were recorded some of the strongest gaps in the soil in the territory of the local mines. In the end, this process was repeated throughout the year and by 2011, the level of water in the popular lake has significantly decreased.
According to the latest recorded data, its depth fell by 2 meters, as a result, on the bottom and along the perimeter of the shore, a layer of curative mud rippled.
Today, the dead lake unfortunately is not as big as it once was, but it is still a popular attraction of Solotvyno, which attracts thousands of tourists from all over Ukraine and abroad.
